5 Questions with Natalie Whalen

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rising junior Natalie Whalen is from Chicago, Ill, and is majoring in biology at Indiana.
Q: How did you get started playing tennis?
A: My grandmother put me in tennis at the age of four years old and I've been playing ever since.
Q: What is your major and what are your career goals after college?
A: My major is biology and my goals are to go to graduate school and become a veterinarian. Long-term goals are to eventually take over my dad's practice and specialize in chiropractic and acupuncture treatments.
Q: Why did you choose for come to Indiana University and what makes IU and the tennis program special?
A: The biggest reason I chose Indiana was because of how good the tennis program's reputation was. I knew nothing was sugar coated as I came in and am still thankful for how great the staff has worked with us. Besides having a huge alumni group, the current team and coaching staff makes IU even more special. Each person has a unique experience but being able to share that with your favorite people makes the school that much better.
Q: What is your favorite thing about IU?
A: My favorite thing about IU is how close all of the athletes grow together. Being able to be a part of and watch people's friendships grow and develop has been a blessing.
Q: What are you looking forward to about next year?
A: Besides being more successful as a team, personally I am excited to be on the court more often. Now that I made it through an entire season healthy I am confident and ready to step it up and make more of a difference.
