The future Hoosier gains a training opportunity with the nation’s best young players
LANCASTER, Pa. – Indiana's incoming freshman goalkeeper, Shelby Querry, was selected last month to participate in the USA Field Hockey U-19 Junior National Camp at Spooky Nook Sports. The State College, Pennsylvania native earned a unique opportunity to train for a weekend with the nation's top 100 players before her arrival in Bloomington this fall.
The annual Junior National Camp is the premier camp for USA Field Hockey Futures athletes. The final selections for the weekend are made from the top 80 to 100 players in the country, as selected from the National Futures Championship. Their performance at the camp could lead to future selections to Junior High Performance programs.
Querry was one of 51 players named to the team and one of 22 players selected from Pennsylvania.
A two-time Mid-Penn Commonwealth Conference (MPCC) first team All-Star, Shelby Querry played formidably between the pipes for State College Area High School. She made 354 saves in her career, including 149 blocks as a senior to aid a District VI Championship. At the club level, Querry took her game to the national stage with the State College Blue Lions.
Querry wasn't the only Hoosier in action this summer under the Junior High Performance umbrella. Redshirt seniors Katie Johnson and Elle Hempt entered the Young Women's National Championship earlier this summer, also at Spooky Nook Sports.
This August, Querry will join eight other Indiana newcomers from around the nation and the globe for the start of head coach Amanda Janney's third season with the Hoosiers. Querry enters a goalkeeping group with Johnson and fellow newcomer Sachi Ananias.
