BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the sixth straight year the Indiana Volleyball team claimed the Indiana Invitational title, with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14) win against Indiana State on Saturday at University Gym.
Sophomore Deyshia Lofton was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Lofton posted 25 kills and hit .419 for the weekend. She also added 12 blocks.
Sophomores Victoria Brisack and Hayden Huybers joined Lofton on the All-Tournament Team.
"We have been playing ourselves for so long that we wanted to see how our system would work against other teams," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "Now we have some things we want to work on in practice, but I thought it was really great that we played a lot of players and we have a deep bench. That bodes well for a long season."
In the Hoosiers (3-0) final match of the tournament, against Indiana State, they played 13 players and had six players tally at least six kills in the match.
Senior Jessica Leish, who celebrated her birthday on Saturday led the Hoosiers with nine kills in the match and had 28 kills for the weekend.
After committing 10 attack errors in the first set against the Sycamores, the Hoosiers had nine for the second and third set combined and three in the final set.
In the final set of the match Indiana hit .343 and after a 1-1 tie they lead the rest of the way in the set.
