OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Indiana University men's soccer's Grant Lillard was named one of 30 candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award on Friday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student and encourages them to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
"Grant has been a high-end performer on the field and in the classroom," IU head coach Todd Yeagley said. "He's a standout student in Kelley School of Business and one of our team captains. We feel we have the top center backs in college soccer."
Lillard has been a leader on and off the field for the Hoosiers, helping IU reach the NCAA Tournament in his first three seasons as well as being an active member of the community. The Hinsdale, Ill. product has also been a standout in the classroom, earning 2016 NSCAA Scholar All-America honors. Lillard was also named scholar all-region and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
On the field, Lillard is a two-time First-Team All-Big Ten selection that was named Second-Team All-America in 2016. Lillard is also a three-time All-Region honoree that has started all 68 matches he's appeared in for the Hoosiers, totaling 12 goals and eight assists.

To be eligible for the award, a student must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men's College Cup in December.
