Freshman Shepherd Leads IU In Round One at Wolf Run

ZIONSVILLE, Indiana – The 2017-18 season got underway on Friday for the Indiana men's golf team at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate and the Hoosiers are in ninth place after 18 holes with a team score of 302. A total of eight shots separates seventh place from 14th place.
Freshman Ethan Shepherd, making his collegiate debut, led the Hoosiers with a consistent round of 2-over par (73). He was able to avoid the large number, making three birdies and five bogeys on his round, including birdie on two of his final three holes.
Redshirt junior Jake Brown finished round one at 5-over par to join Evan Yakubov, who is making his first collegiate start in a tie for 36th.
Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter was the fourth score that counted for IU, as he carded a 77 despite leading IU with four birdies on the day.
Brendon Doyle is tied for 52nd at 7-over par through 18 holes to round out the scores for those competing for the team.
Indiana also has three players playing as individuals and Evan Gaesser, who is making his first IU start after transferring from LaSalle, led the way with a 77 to tie for 44th. Christian Fairbanks is tied for 52nd after his 78 and Trevor Ranton is tied for 75th after an opening 81.
Round two will get underway at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Wolf Run Golf Club. Fans can follow along with hole-by-hole live scoring on GolfStat.com.
