
Hoosiers Win Six Events At The Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Indiana University track and field arrived in Lexington, Ky. ready to compete on Friday evening. The Hoosiers won a total six events at the two-day Kentucky Invitational.
Day one consisted of four events, the men's and women's weight throw and the men's and women's distance medley relay (DMR).
Redshirt senior Andrew Miller started Indiana University off with a win in the men's weight throw with the mark of 21.34m (70' 0"). Freshman Nick Lane finished fifth overall with the mark of 18.53m (60' 9"). Junior Nycia Ford finished fourth in the women's weight throw with the mark of 19.12m (62' 8"). Redshirt freshman Princess Brinkley finished behind Ford in fifth place with the mark of 18.12m (59' 5").
This was the first race of the season where the Hoosiers ran the DMR. Redshirt freshman Teddy Browning led the men's team running the first 1200m followed by freshman Isaiah Ware who ran 400m then redshirt freshman Marcus Ellington ran for 800m and redshirt freshman Ben Veatch rounded out the team running the final 1600m. They finished third overall with the time of 9:50.79, which secured them the No. 3 spot in the national rankings.
The women's team was led by sophomore Joely Pinkston who ran the first 1200m of the race, junior Riley Egbula and sophomore Mallory Mulzer ran the middle 400m and 800m. Redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel closed out the last 1600m to help the women cross the finish line in second place with the final time of 11:42.44 and earned the No. 3 spot in the national rankings.
The Hoosiers came out hot on day two sweeping the men's and women's mile run.
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau led the sweep for the men crossing the finish line with the time of 4:02.77, which is the No. 2 spot in the national rankings. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy, redshirt freshman Teddy Browning and redshirt freshman Ben Veatch took second, third and fourth.
The women's team took the top-5 finishes in the mile run. Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur led the pack crossing the finish line at 4:43.47 with senior Brenna Calder finishing close behind with the time of 4:43.92. Receveur and Calder are currently ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in the national rankings. The performance of junior Maggie Allen also earned a national ranking (No. 10) when she crossed the finish line in 4:46.44. Big Ten Track Athlete of the week Haley Harris finished fourth with Hannah Stoffel closing out a dominating performance for the Hoosier women.
The 800m run was another strong event for the Hoosiers. On the men's side senior Daniel Kuhn won the race and claimed the No. 3 spot in the national rankings with the time of 1:49.05. Redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon took second place, Kyle Mau finished fourth and redshirt junior Joe Murphy closed out the race for IU finishing seventh.
The women swept the 800m run led by junior Kelsey Harris who finished first and secured the No. 5 spot in the national rankings when she crossed the finish line in 2:08.81. Senior Kendell Wiles finished second with the time of 2:10.35 with Brenna Calder right behind her crossing at 2:10.78. Joely Pinkston, Mallory Mulzer and Haley Harris finished fifth, sixth and seventh with redshirt sophomore Anevay Hiehle finished the race for IU.
In the field junior Eric Bethea won the men's triple jump and claimed the No. 7 spot in the national rankings with the mark of 15.50m (50'10.25"). Sophomore Leah Moran finished third in the women's triple jump with the mark of 12.02 (39'5.25").
Junior David Schall and sophomore Khayla Dawson both finished third in the shot put. Schall finished with the mark of 18.05m (59' 4") and Dawson with the mark of 15.90m (52' 2").
The Hoosiers will be back in action next weekend when they host the Gladstein Invitational on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20.
