BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer's Grant Lillard finished as a runner-up for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy on Friday. Lillard, along with Stanford's Tomas Hilliard-Arce earned runner-up honors to winner Jon Bakero of Wake Forest.
"We are so proud of Grant for being a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy," IU head coach Todd Yeagley said. The Missouri Athletic Club hosts a wonderful event and it's a memory that Grant, his family and our program will cherish for years. Grant joins a small group of IU greats who have been finalists for this prestigious award."
Lillard was the first Hoosier to be named a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy since Will Bruin in 2010. Danny O'Rourke is the last Hoosier to win the MAC Hermann Trophy, taking home the award in 2004. The MAC has honored the top player in collegiate soccer since 1986. Prior to 2002, the Missouri Athletic Club and Hermann Trophy were two separate awards.
Two IU players earned the MAC Player of the Year trophy on three occasions with Ken Snow taking the honor in 1988 and 1990, and current IU head coach Todd Yeagley in 1994. Hoosiers collected five Hermann trophies with Angelo DiBernardo in 1978, Armando Betancourt in 1981, Ken Snow in 1988 and 1990, and current IU associate head coach Brian Maisonneuve in 1994.
