BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University men's basketball coach Archie Miller has announced that seniors Juwan Morgan and Zach McRoberts, in a vote by their teammates, have been named team captains for the 2018-19 season.
"Juwan and Zach have shown the qualities that you would expect from experienced players in the program," said Miller. "They lead by example on the floor every day with their work ethic and in the locker room by not being afraid to hold their teammates accountable in representing the standards we expect when you wear Indiana across your chest. They are two of the most selfless individuals you will ever meet and clearly have earned the respect of their teammates and coaching staff."
Morgan is in his fourth year with the Hoosiers and earned All-Big Ten and All-District honors as a junior. He improved his overall scoring by 8.8 points and his Big Ten output by 10.6 points and started 30 games. He averaged 16.5 points overall and 7.4 rebounds. He needs 170 points to become the 52nd player in IU history to reach the 1,000-point mark in their career.
McRoberts is in his third year as a non-scholarship player after beginning his career at Vermont. An Academic All-Big Ten pick, he has started 20 games in his two seasons and finished second in Big Ten only games in steals last season. He graduated with a degree in economics last spring and is seeking a master's degree in analytics from the Kelley School of Business.
The duo's teamwork was never more evident than in last year's win over nationally ranked Notre Dame. Morgan had made a basket in the closing seconds and was fouled. He missed the free throw, but McRoberts out-hustled Irish defenders, grabbed the board and fed Morgan for a go-ahead dunk.
They will represent the Hoosiers October 11 at Big Ten Media Day.
