BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's and women's cross country teams both move up eight spots in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, announced Tuesday afternoon.
The women's team earned its highest ranking in program history, coming in at No. 11 after a seventh-place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational last weekend. They are ranked third amongst the Big Ten following Wisconsin (eighth) and Michigan (tenth). Other conference ranked school include Michigan State (14th), Penn State (19th) and Minnesota (21st). Prior to these rankings the women's highest rank was No. 14, which they achieved after the Battle in Beantown last September.
The Hoosiers jumped eight spots due to their 46.2 second spread between their top-5 finishers last weekend in Madison, Wis, led by senior Maggie Allen who finished 18th overall with the time of 20:07.9. Allen was followed by teammates senior Katherine Receveur (20:14.4), freshman Sarah Schmitt (20:42.2), freshman Bailey Hertenstein (20:49.0), junior Lexa Barrott (20:53.7).
The men's team earned the No. 21 spot this week, moving up eight spots from last week after their 14th place finish at the Nuttycombe Invitational last weekend. They are one-of-four Big Ten schools ranked in the USTFCCCA polls, behind Wisconsin (third), Purdue (13th) and Michigan (20th).
The Hoosiers will be back in action on Friday, October 12 at Bradley University to compete in the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
