Student fans will have the opportunity to sit court level behind the basket for all IU Men's Basketball games this season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Basketball already boasts the nation's largest student section. Beginning this season, it will reward the most passionate and energetic of those student fans with the opportunity to upgrade their seats and sit court level behind the basket for all Hoosier home men's basketball games.
In a move precipitated by suggestions from various student groups including the Student Athletic Board (SAB) and Indiana University Student Association (IUSA), Indiana University is setting aside a section of 200 court-level, bleacher seats behind the south goal that will be available exclusively to General Admission student ticket holders for every home game.
"We are extremely excited about the new opportunity for students to upgrade their tickets to the area behind the basket this year," said SAB President Samantha Clements. "We are looking for the loudest, most passionate fans to join us in this special section to help carry on the tradition of being one of the greatest home court advantages in college basketball."
At noon two days before each home men's basketball game, all student ticket holders with GA tickets for that contest will receive an e-mail with the offer to upgrade to this new courtside section. The first 200 to complete the free, upgrade process will be alerted immediately that they have been upgraded to this special Crimson Guard section. This select group of fans – who will be required to arrive at least one hour before tip-off to keep their seat – will not only enjoy some of the best seats in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, but will also receive a free giveaway and/or free concessions upon entry.
"I fully support this change," said IUSA President Alex Wisniewski. "More students will have the opportunity to get engaged during basketball games and foster an increased amount of school spirit."
For those who miss out on the chance to upgrade, no need to worry. This process will be carried out before each and every one of IU's 13 home games that are included in the student ticket package, starting with the Thursday, Nov. 1 exhibition contest against Southern Indiana which tips off at 7 p.m.
So bring your costumes, bring your energy, and check your e-mail at noon two days before each game. Then, get ready to make Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall an even tougher place to play in 2018-19.
