Indiana University is in its 119th season of competition in men's basketball. The Hoosiers will host Texas-Arlington as part of the of the Hardwood Showcase. The Hoosiers are coming off a 73-72 loss at Arkansas on Sunday, while the Mavericks defeated UC Davis, 68-59, at home on Sunday. This is the first meeting between the two teams. IU will close out the event on Friday hosting UC Davis.

Indiana Coach Archie Miller begins his second season of guiding the Cream and Crimson. Last year, the Hoosiers finished 16-15 and 9-9 in the Big Ten. He is 158-79 in seven- plus years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. UTA is led by Chris Ogden. He is in his first season with the Mavericks after serving as an assistant at Texas Tech, Tennessee and Texas. The Mavs leading scorer, Brian Howe, is an Indianapolis native who attended Howe High School and Tyler Junior College.

Senior forward Juwan Morgan and freshman guard Romeo Langford were selected to the 10-member Preseason All-Big Ten team. Both are among 50 players listed as candidates for the 2019 Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award and Langford is among 20 players on the NABC Player of the Year watch list. Langford was named third-team Preseason All-American by ESPN.com and CBSSports.com and earned fourth-team honors from WatchStadium.com. The New,Albany native was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after averaging 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in two games for the Hoosiers last week
HOOSIERS MAKE MOST OF THEIR SHOT OPPORTUNITIES
Coach Archie Miller's squad is the top shooting team in the Big Ten making 55.6% of its shots through the first two weeks of the season. That figure ranks 3rd in the country. IU's 63.6% shooting effort against Marquette was the best ever performance for an Archie Miller coached team in his eight seasons as a head coach. His team's previous best came when Dayton beat George Mason and shot 62.9% in 2016. IU is averaging 88.0 points per game a 14.8 ppg improvement after 4 games a year ago. After going 9-of-20 from 3-point range against Marquette, the Hoosiers were 8-of-20 against Arkansas. Over the last two games, IU is 17-of-40 (.425) from long range.
DEFENSE IMPROVED
The Hoosiers are 7th in the country in three-point field goal defense. Opponents are shooting 20.4% from long range. IU held Arkansas without a 3FGM in the final 15:06 on Sunday and limited them to 2-of-13 shooting from long range in the second half. After 4 games last year, Hoosier opponents were making 46.8 from long distance (44-of-94). In addition, IU is limiting opponents to 59.0 points per game after allowing 76.0 points per game after the same number of games a season ago.
