Team Cross Takes Game One of World Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball held the first game of its three-game Fall World Series on Friday evening. With the teams managed by Hoosier catchers Ryan Fineman and Wyatt Cross, Team Cross rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 3-2 victory in extra innings.
With the game scheduled for seven innings, sophomore Justin Walker delivered the go-ahead RBI groundout in the top of the eighth. IU used the extra-inning format by having the frame begin with runners on second and third with one out.
KEY MOMENTS
• Team Fineman got on the board in the bottom of the third, as junior Matt Gorski delivered a one-out RBI triple, scoring freshman Gavin Napier, who led off the frame with a base-hit.
• Sophomore Sam Crail reached first and second on a pair of wild pitches and then stole third with no outs in the bottom of the fourth. Then with two outs, he would score on another wild pitch.
• Team Cross rallied in the top of the fifth inning, as freshman Grant Richardson singled and then scored on a double by junior Carter Bridge to cut the lead to 2-1. Bridge would then score on an RBI single by senior Logan Kaletha to knot the contest up at two.
• In the top of the eighth with runners on second and third with one out, Kaletha walked to load the bases. Walker then hit a high chopper to junior shortstop Jeremy Houston, allowing the eventual game-winning run to score.
• Sophomore Connor Manous struck out the two batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the save.
NOTABLES
• Junior Cam Beauchamp started for Team Cross on the mound, striking out nine hitters in three innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.
• Junior Pauly Milto earned the start on the bump for Team Fineman, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five in five frames of work.
• Napier and Crail each had a game-high two hits.
