BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Team Cross clinched Indiana baseball's Fall World Series by earning an 8-7 walk-off win in extra innings on Saturday. Junior Scotty Bradley drew a bases loaded walk to give his team the win.
With Team Fineman trailing by two runs in the final inning with two outs, sophomore Pat Loeffler hit a two-run home run to tie things up. Also going deep in the game were Carter Bridge and Grant Richardson.
KEY MOMENTS
• Team Fineman got things going in the first inning, as Matt Gorski led off with a single and Cade Bunnel followed with a base-hit as well. A two-base error occurred during Sam Crail's at-bat, allowing Gorski to score from second.
• Loeffler singled in the top of the second for Team Fineman and eventually stole third, forcing a throwing error that advanced him home to give the away team a 2-0 lead.
• Team Cross tied things up in the bottom of the second, thanks to the solo home run by Richardson and a wild pitch later in the frame that scored Bridge.
• Bridge's home run came in the bottom of the third, a two-run shot, to put Cross ahead by two runs. Senior Logan Kaletha reached on a three-base throwing error that allowed another run to score to make it 5-2.
• Gorski worked a two-out walk in the top of the fourth, stole second, and then scored on Bunnell's base-hit to left to cut the Cross lead to two.
• Drew Ashley hit a one-out double in the top of the sixth and Gorski singled to put runners on the corners, but sophomore Brad Busald came in and escaped the threat to keep the lead at 5-3.
• In the top of the seventh with two outs, Loeffler hit the game-tying two-run home run for Team Fineman to make it a 7-7 game.
• After Fineman's squad plated two runs on a wild pitch and a double steal, Walker hit a two-run double to left, which then set up the walk-off bases loaded walk for Bradley.
