Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana University men's basketball coach Archie Miller has announced that Trayce Jackson-Davis, a 6-9 232-lb., All-State forward from Center Grove (Indiana) High School has signed a national letter of intent to attend IU and play basketball for the Hoosiers.
Davis is ranked #15 in the country by 247 Sports Composite, 17th by ESPN and #18 in the nation by Rivals.com. He also is #14 in USA Today's Chosen 25 for the 2019 class.
He will be a four-year letterwinner for the Trojans, who are coached by Zach Hahn, and has led them to back-to-back sectional titles. He averaged 22.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.7 blocked shots and 2.8 assists per game as a junior. He had 29 points and 10 rebounds in his senior season opener last week in a win against Franklin.
He was a member of the core team of Indiana Junior All-Stars and was part of the Supreme 15 All-State underclass team as chosen by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
He also helped Team USA win the 2018 FIBA Americas Men's U18 Championship gold medal, last June. During the tournament, he made 19 of his 22 field goal attempts (86.0%).
During the AAU season last summer, he averaged 19.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for Spiece Indy Heat and coach Jason Delaney. His team played in the Nike EYBL circuit.
He is the son of Ray and Karla Jackson and Dale Davis. He has a sister, Arielle and a brother, Tayven.
He is the second member of IU's 2019 class joining guard Armaan Franklin of Indianapolis Cathedral High School.
Miller on Jackson-Davis
"Trayce was one of the very first couple young kids in the state that we targeted just in terms of saying that we want to have a good chance of building a rapport and relationship, because it wasn't going to be a real chance to recruit him and a real chance to spend some time with him early and his family.
"We worked tirelessly, my staff did, with them. I have a great relationship with the family and Trayce. And to be able to get that caliber of player, obviously, from the state is huge.
"Keeping guys here, playing here, is something that hopefully makes our job easy one day where you don't have to work very hard -- I don't want to say work very hard -- but you don't have to really stretch yourself when there's a great player.
"He's got a lot of upside coming to him. Size. Athleticism. Length. Has got great hands. But more so than anything, I think it continues to hopefully build confidence that the best want to come here. And that's what we strived to do from day one. And we're going to continue to strive for that as we continue to move forward because that's what makes the most sense.
"He has been a winner in high school and has benefited from outstanding coaching from Zach Hahn at Center Grove. He displays all of the characteristics you look for in a young man in regards to leadership, coachability and playing to win. He is constantly improving as a player and his experiences with both Team USA and Spiece Indy Heat have helped his growth a great deal.
"Our entire program is excited and looking forward to the opportunity to coach and develop Trayce on and off the court. He is a tremendous addition to our program and we are extremely grateful that he is joining our Indiana basketball family."
