BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior Juwan Morgan has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday (Dec. 17). It is the second time in his career he has been honored. He won the award 364 days ago.
Morgan scored a career-high 35 points, breaking his career-high and tournament record from last year (34 points) in leading IU to a 71-68 comeback win over Butler in the Crossroads Classic. Morgan also became the 52nd player in IU history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark in his career and ranks 51st on the IU list with 1,020 points.
IU trailed by 11 in the first half and by 9 midway through the second half. He made 12-of-14 field goal attempts, 4-of-6 from long distance and all seven of his free throws. In addition, he had two steals and two blocks. His steal with 3:50 led to him making two game-tying free throws and on the next possession, he gave IU its first lead of the game.
Morgan is seventh in the league in scoring (17.3), second in three-point field goal percentage (48.1%), fifth in field goal percentage (67.2%) and 10th in rebounds (7.6). He finishes his three-game career at the Crossroads Classic second in total points scored (75) and points per game (25.0) among those who have competed in the eight-year event.
Indiana will host Central Arkansas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and tickets are still available via IUHoosiers.com.
