THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller is in his second season of guiding the Cream and Crimson. Last year, the Hoosiers finished 16-15 and 9-9 in the Big Ten. He is 161-80 in seven-plus years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. Penn State is guided by Patrick Chambers who is in his 8th year with the Nittany Lions. They won the 208 NIT Championship
NEWS & NOTES
Each of the last 7 meetings between the two teams have not been decided until the final minute. This will be the only time the teams meet this season.
IU has won 10 of the last 12 meetings since 2012.
IU trailed 61-58 with 3:30 left in the game when senior Juwan Morgan went out due to a leg injury. He did not return and IU outscored the Wildcats, 10-5. They held Northwestern to 2 of 9 shooting, while making 3 of 4 shots and 4 of 6 FT. The Wildcats were 1 of 5 from long distance in that time and were not able to get their leading scorer, Derek Pardon, a shot attempt. Romeo Langford hit the go-ahead floater with 39.7 seconds left and also deflected the ball off a Wildcat in the ensuing defensive possession.
Senior forward Juwan Morgan and freshman guard Romeo Langford were selected to the 10-member Preseason All-Big Ten team. Both are among 50 players listed as candidates for the 2019 Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award and Langford is among 20 players on the NABC Player of the Year watch list. Langford was named third-team Preseason All-American by ESPN.com and CBSSports.com and earned fourth-team honors from WatchStadium.com. Morgan also is up for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award.
Morgan needs 40 points to become the 52nd player in IU history to score 1,000 points or more in his career. Langford's 20-point effort in his first Big Ten game is the most by a true freshman in their first conference outing since Eric Gordon had 25 in his first B1G contest at Iowa in 2008.
Coach Archie Miller's squad is the top shooting team in the Big Ten, and 2nd in the country, making 52.9% of its shots through the first three weeks of the season. IU's 63.6% shooting effort against Marquette was the best ever performance for an Archie Miller coached team in his eight seasons as a head coach. His team's previous best came when Dayton beat George Mason and shot 62.9% in 2016.
UP NEXT
IU will host Louisville Dec. 8, then play Butler in Indianapolis in the Crossroads Classic, Dec. 15.
