BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The IU Varsity Club recently honored Hoosier student-athletes with its annual Scholastic Achievement Awards for academic excellence, and Indiana football's Wes Martin was recognized.
Since 1979, the Varsity Club has presented the Scholastic Achievement Awards to recognize student-athletes from each varsity sport who have excelled in the classroom. The Scholastic Achievement Award goes to the student-athlete that boasts the highest-grade point average (GPA) from their respective team.
"Indiana University Athletics takes tremendous pride in the academic successes and accomplishments of our students, and these individuals have performed at the highest of levels," said Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass. "They have represented not only our department, but the entire university well with their commitment to excellence in the classroom."
Martin was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® 5 Team for the second straight season, back on Nov. 16. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Martin, a criminal justice major, holds a 3.71 grade point average. A 12-time game captain in 2017, he has started 25 straight games at left guard and 31 overall in his career.
