Receveur Claims Big Ten Title, 12 Athletes Advance to the Finals

GENEVA, Ohio. – Indiana University track and field closes day one of the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Championships with the men's team in second place after five events with 29 points and the women's team in third place after six events with 30 points.
Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur took home the gold in the women's 3000m when she crossed the finish line in 9:11.52. Receveur is the first Hoosier to win the 3000m at a Big Ten Indoor Championships since Amy Legacki did so in 1991. Junior Maggie Allen finished fourth overall with the time of 9:14.76, earning five points for the Hoosiers.
On the men's side redshirt freshman Ben Veatch earned six points when he finished third with the time of 8:12.56. Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau took fifth place with the time of 8:15.88, which earned the Hoosiers four points.
The men's distance medley relay (DMR) team consisting of Teddy Browning, Zubin Muncherji, Daniel Kuhn and Joe Murphy earned silver with the final time of 9:45.34. The women's DMR team consisting of Brenna Calder, Natalie Price, Kelsey Harris and Haley Harris took bronze with the time of 11:14.44.
In the women's mile senior Brenna Calder and junior Haley Harris both advanced to the final that will take place Saturday at 1:20 pm EST. Harris ran her indoor career best time of 4:44.51, which was the fourth fastest qualifying time. Calder finished second overall last year at the 2016-17 Championships.
On the men's side, the Hoosiers took first place in all three heats. Redshirt freshman Teddy Browning ran the overall fastest time 4:07.73. Redshirt junior Joe Murphy and redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau ran the second and third fastest qualifying times. Last year, Murphy took second place and Mau finished third in the men's mile.
Junior Kelsey Harris and sophomore Joely Pinkston qualified for the 800m finals that will take place on Saturday at 2:20 pm EST. Harris won her heat and finished second overall with the time of 2:07.12. Pinkston finished second in her heat and sixth overall with the time of 2:09.60. The men's finals will take place directly after the conclusion of the women's race. Redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon ran a season best time of 1:50.27, which qualified for the finals.
In the 60m hurdles sophomore William Session and freshman Zykeria Williams both set new indoor personal records. Session finished second overall with the time of 7.82 and Williams finished eighth overall with the time of 8.42. The women's 60m hurdle finals will start at 2:40 pm EST with the men's race following the women's.
Senior Daniel Kuhn won the 600m prelims with the time of 1:17.14. Kuhn is the two-time defending champion in the 600m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. He'll be given a chance to win his third title Saturday at 3:10 pm EST. Senior Kendell Wiles advanced to the 600m finals after her fifth place finish in the prelims with the time of 1:29.89. Wiles took third place last year at the Championships.
In the field, sophomore Adam Coulon stepped up in his first Big Ten Indoor Championships and earned eight points for the Hoosiers with his second place finish. Coulon earned silver with the mark of 5.28m (17'3.75").
In the women's long jump junior Aaliyah Armstead and sophomore Leah Moran both marked a new indoor personal record. Armstead finished fourth with the mark of 6.08m (19'11.5"), earning five points for the Hoosiers. Moran took eighth with the mark of 5.91m (19'4.75"), earning one point. Junior Treyton Harris took seventh in the men's long jump, earning the Hoosiers three points.
Sophomore Khayla Dawson finished sixth overall in the women's shot put, earning three points for Indiana. Dawson earned sixth place with the mark of 16.51m (54'2"). Freshman Maddie Pollard finished tenth at her first Big Ten Indoor Championships with the mark of 15.54m (51'), which is a new personal record.
Day two of the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Championships will begin at 10:00 am EST. The first event for the Hoosiers will be the women's high jump and men's triple jump starting at 11:00 am EST.
