PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. – Indiana baseball (6-1) made it six-straight wins on Sunday, as the seventeenth-ranked Hoosiers topped the Chicago State Cougars, 7-2.
Indiana had three players go deep, as sophomore Logan Kaletha, sophomore Scotty Bradley and junior Luke Miller all picked up solo home runs. Junior Wyatt Cross found his first hit with the Hoosiers in the second inning with a leadoff double.
Six Hoosier pitchers combined for the six-hitter that saw sophomore Cameron Beauchamp pick up his first win. The lefty went two innings, allowed three hits and struck out one.
Kaletha cut Chicago State's early two-run lead in half with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. Miller took an offering down the line in left for a double, while free passes to senior Logan Sowers and Bradley loaded the bases before the Cougars forced a fly out to leave three Hoosiers stranded.
Miller put Indiana ahead 3-2 in the third inning, as his two-run shot to left field brought home junior Matt Lloyd, who walked to open the frame.
Beauchamp and senior Brian Hobbie combined for four scoreless innings, as Hobbie faced the minimum in both the fifth and sixth.
Indiana stretched its lead to 6-2 with the help of the three-run sixth inning. Bradley began things with a solo home run to right field. Fineman took a pitch off the head for a free base and took second on a balk. He came around to score on an error off Kaletha's ball. Miscues continued to plague Chicago State, as Kaletha found his way around the bases with the help of a wild pitch and error on Lloyd's attempt.
Indiana tacked on one final run in the eighth with the help of Chicago State's third error of the day. Freshman Justin Walker pinch hit for sophomore Jeremy Houston and picked up a leadoff walk. After swiping his first collegiate base, he scored on a throwing error.
The trio of senior B.J. Sabol, freshman Austin Long and sophomore Cal Krueger combined for three hitless innings to close out the game.
The Hoosiers next have a four-game series at The University of San Diego, with a first pitch against the Toreros set for 9 p.m. ET on Friday.
