Young scores four, crosses career century mark
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Indiana completed an unbeaten weekend at the Santa Clara Invitational with a 13-4 win over Cal State Monterey Bay in their Sunday finale. The Hoosiers (11-3) gained another outstanding performance from senior Sarah Young, who scored a season-high four goals—the last being the 100th goal of her career—to lead IU towards their fifth straight win.
Young led four Hoosiers with multiple goals in the game. Senior hot hand Jennifer Beadle brought her tally to 19 goals in IU's last eight games with two versus the Otters (1-10). Joelle Nacouzi turned in another two-goal performance, netting both within 27 seconds of each other in the first quarter. And sophomore Megan Abarta added two scores to the winning cause, extending her scoring streak to six games.
Emily Powell, Carlie Crumbaugh, and Riley Beemer entered the ledger with one goal apiece, bringing Beemer's total to three scores on the weekend.
Defensively, Indiana split the shift in goal between Jessica Gaudreault and Davis Simmons. Gaudreault held the Otters scoreless in the first half to put the finishing touches on a superb weekend between the posts. The Hoosier defense also killed 6-of-8 Cal State Monterey Bay power plays.
