AUSTIN, Texas – Indiana Women's Basketball junior forward Amanda Cahill has been named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team, announced by the organization today.
The Clyde, Ohio native repeats as first team Academic All-American from 2017 and becomes the second back-to-back selection in Indiana Women's Basketball history, joining Terri Friedman (1981-82). She is the sixth Academic All-American selection for the program, earning the nod with a 3.92 GPA in Elementary education. Fifteen Division I women's college basketball players earn Academic All-American distinction each year, and Cahill is one of two Big Ten selections (Carlie Wagner, Minnesota) and one of four repeat Academic All-Americans from last season.
"I am beyond thrilled that Amanda has been named an Academic All-American for the second-consecutive year," Head coach Teri Moren said. "She is the epitome of what it means to be a student-athlete at Indiana University. Her work ethic on and off the court is unmatched and I am excited to see her be rewarded for it."
Cahill is a three-time All-Big Ten Selection and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. The Clyde, Ohio native is averaging 15.5 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds as she adds 2.9 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. She is shooting a team-high 40.1 percent from 3-point range, 48.3 percent from the floor and 80.3 percent from the free throw line. In addition, she has a team-high 10 double-doubles and has scored in double figures in 30 of 31 games. She posted a career-high 38 points in IU's four overtime win over Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament on Mar. 1.
She became the second player in school history to record 1,800 points and 1,000 rebounds. She ranks third all-time in career rebounds (1,071), third in double-doubles (39), tied for fourth in 3-pointers made (189), seventh in scoring (1,801) and seventh in blocked shots (127). Cahill is IU's Sportsmanship Award winner for the second-straight season and was a top 30 candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
