BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer scored three second-half goals but it proved to not be enough as the Hoosiers fell to Saint Louis in Saturday's spring game at Mellencamp Pavilion, 4-3.
Indiana saw a pair of goals from junior Maya Piper, which she scored less than a minute apart in the second half.
Despite Indiana controlling possession early, Saint Louis netted a trio of goals in the final 21 minutes of the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
However, IU began the second half on a mission as junior Abby Allen send a terrific ball in from the left to the head of Piper, whose shot knocked off the crossbar and past the goal line just 39 seconds into the half.
Less than a minute later, Piper cut the Saint Louis lead to 3-2 as redshirt junior Mykayla Brown sent her a ball in from the right flank and Piper knocked it in. Piper led the Hoosiers in scoring in 2017 with a career-high seven goals.
Freshman Melanie Forbes tied the game at 3-3 in the 76th minute on her goal from 10 yards out. Forbes beat a pair of Saint Louis defenders on her way to finding the back of the net.
However, the Billikens would take back the lead in the 85th minute to secure the 4-3 victory.
The Hoosiers continue their spring schedule on Friday, April 6 at Bill Armstrong Stadium as they play host to Evansville.
