BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team won their Big Ten home opener with a 5-2 victory over Minnesota on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.

The Hoosiers (13-6, 1-3) came out with strong energy in the doubles as they won at No. 3 doubles 6-2 with Michelle McKamey and Olga Zavarotnaya. Moments later Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to give the Hoosiers the first point of the match.

The Hoosiers won four of the six first sets in singles and didn't look back as Natalie Whalen won first at singles for the Hoosiers with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Madison Appel clinched the match for the Hoosiers. Appel won her first set on a tie break and overpowered her opponent in the second set for a 6-1 victory to win the match.

Caitlin Bernard and Xiwei Cai also won matches for Indiana.

Up next the Hoosiers host Iowa (March 31 at 11:00 AM) and Nebraska (April 1 at 11:00 AM).
