ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore Zac Brodney has been named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
The honor comes after Brodney won two singles and two doubles matches this past weekend over a pair of ranked teams.
Against No. 31 Minnesota, Brodney combined with senior Raheel Manji to capture the doubles point for IU with a 7-5 win. In singles, Brodney took care of the fifth spot, 6-4, 6-3.
On Sunday's match with No. 46 Wisconsin, the Hoosiers and Brodney were equally impressive. Alongside Manji at the second doubles spot, the duo got the win over the 89th nationally ranked pair for the Badgers, 6-4. On a day filled with three set singles matches, Brodney was the lone two set finish as he won 6-3, 6-2.
This season, the sophomore holds a 13-6 (5-2 B1G) record and has won four of his past five singles matches while winning six of his last seven doubles matches.
Brodney is the first Hoosier to receive the recognition since Manji on Feb. 7, 2017.
Coming up next, the Hoosiers take their final road trip of the regular season when they face Iowa on April 13 at 6 p.m. and Nebraska on April 15 at 1 p.m. The following weekend, IU will close out the regular season at home and senior day will be April 22 at Noon when the Hoosiers take on Penn State.
