
No. 46 Hoosiers Fall to No. 3 Ohio State, 5-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 46 Indiana men's tennis team (13-11) was defeated in their first match of the regular season's final weekend on Friday afternoon at the IU Varsity Courts. In the loss, junior Antonio Cembellin beat the country's fourth ranked singles player.
The Hoosiers took a 2-1 lead at all doubles spots before Ohio State closed the gap. At the second and third spot, the Buckeyes tied it at 4-4 and won the next two games to take the doubles point. Although left unfinished, the top doubles spot of senior Keivon Tabrizi and sophomore Bennett Crane led 5-3 with a match point.
With five ranked singles players in their lineup, the Buckeyes took all but four out of six singles spot. Ohio State grew their lead to 2-0 when they took the first singles match of the day at the two spot. After wins at the third, fourth and fifth spot, that lead extended to 5-0.
The Hoosiers picked up two wins to finish off the day when Cembellin and freshman Brandon Lam grabbed victories. At the top spot when Cembellin beat Michael Topegard, the fourth ranked player in the ITA singles rankings. Cembellin took the first set 6-2, dropped a tight second set but won a third set 10-point tiebreaker, 10-8.
Lam, in the final match of the day also went to a 10-point third set and came away with a 12-10 win against the No. 99 ranked player.
Up next, IU heads back outside for a 12 p.m. Sunday match against No. 49 Penn State. After the match, seniors Keivon Tabrizi and Raheel Manji will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
