Hoosiers Edged by Terrapins, 4-3

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Indiana women's tennis team won the doubles point and first singles match, but couldn't close out the match as they fell 4-3 to Maryland on Friday.
In doubles, the Hoosiers (16-10, 3-7) struck first as Olga Zavarotnaya and Caitlin Bernard won 6-3 at the No. 3 doubles position. Maryland won at No. 2 doubles as it came down to the No. 1 doubles match with Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic.
Appel and Bozovic trailed 3-5, but came back to win the match, 7-5 to earn the doubles point for the Hoosiers.
The Hoosiers went up 2-0 in the match as Appel won at the No. 1 singles position, 6-2, 6-2.
Maryland seized momentum with wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positons to go up 3-2 in the overall match.
At No. 5 singles Bozovic showed resiliency. After winning 6-1 in her opening set, Bozovic dropped a close 7-5 set and then found herself down 4-0 in the third set. Bozovic fought back to win the third set, 7-5 and earn the Hoosiers a third point to even the overall match at 3-3 with the Terrapins.
The last match came down to No. 6 singles and Indiana freshman Michelle McKamey against Kate Yemelyanenka of Maryland. McKamey won the first set 7-5, but fell 6-4 in the second set.
Yemelyanenka led 3-2 in the third set and McKamey got a break point to tie it 3-3. Yemelyanenka got a break to go up 4-3, but McKamey got another break to even it at 4-4. Yemelyanenka got another break point to go up 5-4 and serve for the match, but McKamey battled back to a 5-5 tie.
Maryland would win the No. 6 singles match 7-5 in the third set to capture the 4-3 victory.
The Hoosiers will close out the regular season on Sunday at Rutgers.
