BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After finishing the regular season with a 17-10 record, their most wins since the 2013-14 season, the Indiana women's tennis team travels to Minneapolis for the Big Ten Tournament.
The Hoosiers are the No. 10 seed in the tournament and take on No. 7 seed Michigan State on Thursday April 26 at 1:30 PM ET on the campus of Minnesota. Weather permitting matching will be played at the Baseline Tennis Center outdoor courts, with the option to move indoors if needed.
Indiana and Michigan State met in the regular season in East Lansing on March 23 with the Spartans taking the victory.
The Hoosiers ended the season winning two of their last three Big Ten matches in the regular season.
Both Madison Appel and Caitlin Bernard have posted 20 or more singles wins this season with Appel 24-10 and Bernard 25-14 for the season. Senior Xiwei Cai has won 13 matches this season, including five in Big Ten play.
Indiana has received excellent production from their freshmen this season, who have combined for a 35-17 singles record in dual match play.
The Hoosiers have played 22 different doubles lineups this season and have a .646 winning percentage in doubles during the year.
IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said he thinks the team is ready for the challenge of the Big Ten Tournament.
"We are excited to go to Minnesota and compete," he said. "We are playing great tennis right now and I think the team is very motivated to continue our season."
