Hoosiers Fall Against Purdue, 4-3

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team put themselves in position to win, but couldn't close it out as they dropped a 4-3 match against Purdue on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers (14-8, 2-5) struck first in doubles action as Madison Appel and Michelle McKamey picked up a 6-2 win. Purdue won the No. 1 doubles match 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Caitlin Bernard and Jelly Bozovic had a 5-2 lead but could not close it out and the match went to a tiebreak. Bozovic and Bernard came back from down 6-1 to make it 6-4 but Purdue won the tiebreak 7-4 to get the doubles point.
Purdue won at No. 1 and No. 4 singles to take a 3-0 lead in the match.
Bozovic put the Hoosiers on the board with a 6-3, 7-6 win and Olga Zavarotnaya have Indiana another point with a 6-4, 7-5 win.
Purdue clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win, but Bernard added a point for the Hoosiers with a three-set win.
Up next the Hoosiers host DePaul tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
