Monroe County Board Of Commissioners Proclaims IU Women’s Basketball Day on Wednesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Monroe County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed today (Wednesday, May 2) as IU Women's Basketball Day in Monroe County, indiana at its meeting this morning.

The Hoosiers were honored for winning its first Women's National Invitational Tournament championship on March 31. IU defeated Virginia Tech, 65-57, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in front of a program record crowd of 13,007. They finished the season 23-14, tying a school record for wins in a season and won 15 of its last 17 games.

"Monroe County is proud of the determination and winning spirit demonstrated by the IU Women's Basketball team. You are an inspiration to our entire county, but especially to our girls and women," the proclamation stated.

IU Head Coach Teri Moren, staff and members of the team were in attendance for the proclamation at the Monroe County Courthouse in downtown Bloomington.
