AUSTIN, Texas - Indiana head coach Chris Lemonis has been named a manager for the USA Baseball NTDP Stripes 14U team, it was announced on Thursday.
The National Team Development Program (NTDP) offers athletes with an opportunity to connect with USA Baseball staff to better prepare for a future national team experience. The program includes skill development sessions, off-field education seminars and intrasquad Stars vs. Stripes games to assist in the development of the athletes as both a player and a person.
The 2018 14U NTDP will take place July 24-27 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
Named the 24th head coach of the Hoosier Baseball program on July 2, 2014, Lemonis is his fourth season in 2018 leading the program and his 24th overall year in coaching. He has posted a career record of 139-89-2 and has led the Hoosiers to three NCAA Regionals.
Friday's action in Austin will be Indiana's eighth NCAA tournament appearance (1949, 1996, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018). Lemonis is the only coach in program history to make three regionals in his first four seasons as IU's skipper. He ties Tracy Smith (2009, 2013, 2014) for the most NCAA postseason appearances in program history.
This is Indiana's third ever at large big in the NCAA Tournament (1949, 1996, 2009, 2013 and 2014 were automatic bids), with all three at large bids coming in the Lemonis era.
Lemonis and the No. 2-seeded Hoosiers earned a berth into the 2017 Lexington Regional. In his first season, Indiana posted a 35-24 overall record in 2015 and earned a spot in the program's third-straight NCAA Regional.
