BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball announced that Marshall's Grayson Radcliffe is transferring to IU and will suit up for the Hoosiers next season. Radcliffe recently completed her freshman campaign with the Thundering Herd.
"Our coaching staff is honored Grayson chose Indiana with the number of quality options presented after announcing her decision to transfer," said Indiana head coach Shonda Stanton. "We developed a strong relationship with her over the years through the recruiting process at Marshall and we enthusiastically welcome her to the Hoosier family. Grayson can flat out play. She has great range at shortstop, a strong softball IQ, and is a leader on the ball field. More importantly, she is a passionate competitor with a work ethic and attitude that is contagious. Her ambition and drive align with the values and culture that our current student-athletes have set."
Radcliffe made 53 starts at shortstop in 2018, collecting 30 hits with 15 RBI and scoring 16 runs. In addition, her 21 walks were tied for second-most on the team and was good for sixth most in a single season for a Marshall freshman. Off the field, Radcliffe was a 2018 Conference USA Academic Medalist and member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
"I chose Indiana because of the culture rooted in the softball program," said Radcliffe. "The opportunity to play at a Power Five school with state of the art facilities and a great education has always been a goal of mine, and the chance to compete against the best in the game is always a gift. Plus, this coaching staff is one of the best in the game and I really trust what they are doing within this program."
A native of Rockville, Va., Radcliffe was a four-time All-Region and two-time First Team All-Metro selection for Patrick Henry High School. Radcliffe, who led Patrick Henry to two conference championships and two regional titles, was a finalist for the 2017 Richmond-Times Dispatch Scholar Athlete of the Year. Radcliffe wrapped up her career at Patrick Henry with a senior season that saw her hit .623 with five homers, 34 RBI and a fielding percentage of .953. Radcliffe played travelball with the Hanover Hornets, where she led the team to a third-place finish at the ASA Nationals.
Radcliffe will join an Indiana squad that finished 2018 third in the Big Ten with a 17-6 conference mark, tying with 2011 as the most Big Ten wins in a single year since 1994.
