BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – 2016 All-American and 2017 ITA Men's Senior Player of the Year Ronnie Schneider is joining the Indiana men's tennis program as a volunteer assistant coach.
Schneider is a Bloomington native and played collegiately at North Carolina as the Tar Heels No. 1 singles player on the 2017 team that finished NCAA Runners-Up. In 2016 Schneider helped UNC to the National Team Indoor Championship and was named the MVP of the Tournament.
"We are thrilled to add Ronnie to our coaching staff at IU," Indiana head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "He has won at every level as a player from being one of the best juniors in the country, an All American and National Senior Player of the year at UNC and now is climbing on the ATP Tour. More than his results Ronnie's work ethic and understanding of the game will help every player on our team immediately. He will be a great coach and growing up in Bloomington I know he has passion for the Hoosiers."
Schneider, a three-time team captain, earned four First Team All-ACC honors to become the first in conference history to achieve the feat. He posted 120 career singles victories and 200 careers wins in singles and doubles combined.
"I would like to thank Coach Wurtzman and Coach Murray for giving me this amazing opportunity," Schneider said. "Growing up in Bloomington has allowed me to attend countless IU sporting events as well as experience all the other unique opportunities the university has to offer, and I am, above all else, a devout Hoosier fan. Being able to combine my passions for tennis, coaching, and Indiana University is a dream come true, and I cannot wait to get started."
In 2014, Schneider was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and was part of Elite 8 Teams in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Schneider was a four-time Academic All-ACC honoree and graduated from the Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2017. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
In the professional scene, Schneider has a current world singles ranking of 499 and world doubles ranking of 341. He has six professional titles with five doubles and one singles.
Schneider graduated from Bloomington High School South in 2013 and was a three-time Indiana High School Singles State Champion. Schneider was the No. 1 national recruit in the 2013 senior class and a 2013 US Open Men's Doubles participant. Schneider also was the Kalamazoo Boys 16's Singles and Doubles Champion and 18's Doubles Champion.
