ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced that Indiana Women's Basketball will travel to Wake Forest in the 2018-19 ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
"This year, the ACC/Big Ten Challenge presents our program with a great opportunity for a road test early in our schedule," IU head coach Teri Moren said. "We are looking forward to the challenge of playing at Wake Forest and against a team that will prepare us for the remainder of the season."
The Demon Deacons and Hoosiers have met two times previously in back-to-back years in 2006 and 2007 but never in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Previous meetings took place in neutral site tournaments with IU taking the first ever game in the series, 75-53, on Nov. 10, 2006 in the Women's Sports Foundation Classic in Lexington, Ky. Wake Forest took the contest on Nov. 22, 2007 in the US Virgin Island Paradise Jam, 55-53.
Indiana is 6-5 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge as it fell to No. 4/5 Louisville in last year's game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. On the road, the Hoosiers are 3-2 all-time as it last won in the series at Boston College in 2014.
Wake Forest went 14-17 in 2017-18, finishing 5-11 overall in the ACC. They return leading scorer All-ACC second team forward Elisa Penna (15.8 ppg., 4.5 rpg.) and leading rebounder Alex Sharp (10.5 ppg., 8.4 rpg.) under seventh-year head coach Jen Hoover. Tip time and TV designation for all ACC/Big Ten Challenge games will be announced at a later date.
Previously announced in non-conference play, Indiana will take part in the Puerto Rico Classic on Dec. 19-21 against Loyola Marymount, Grambling State and South Dakota. The Hoosiers' Big Ten opponents were also announced with IU will hosting Maryland, Minnesota, Iowa and Penn State while traveling to Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State and Wisconsin. The Hoosiers will face Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Rutgers and Purdue in home-and-home games. The remaining non-conference schedule will be announced at a later time.
