3 Hoosiers Earn Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Honors

The Big Ten Conference office announced the 2017-18 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars today as Indiana Volleyball had three players recognized.

The Distinguished Scholar award is given to those who recorded at least a 3.7 GPA during the 2017-18 academic year. The student must be in the second year at the institution.

Jessica Leish, Hayden Huybers and Samantha Fogg earned the honor. Huybers talked about the challenge of balancing academics and athletics.

"As a student athlete, I'm obviously very passionate about playing volleyball, but also realize the importance of focusing on my classes and the great learning experiences available at IU," Huybers said. "I'll admit it was difficult at first to balance athletics with academics, but with hard work and the support that this great university provides, I've learned to balance it well. Seeing that hard work pay off is an amazing feeling!"
