Teammates Come Together at Wedding in France
8/1/2018 10:39:00 AM | Women's Tennis
This summer Leslie Hureau '13 got married in Annecy, France and had several of her IU women's tennis teammates by her side. Leslie wrote about the experience and what it meant to her to have lifelong friends.
I was very lucky to get married last month in the French town of Annecy, to Charlie, a Hoosier I met in Bloomington in front of many of my IU women's tennis teammates. Maria, Katie, Ellie, Carolyn, Kayla and Alecia flew over from the US while Sophie made the long 10-hour drive across France. It meant so much that they embarked on such a journey to be with us that day, I can't thank them enough for that! It was amazing to be able to show them where I grew up, spend time in France together and all be reunited.
Before the wedding, the girls who were flying from the US visited Paris and we were able to spend a day there together. I have been to Paris many times but this short trip will hold a special place in my heart: a perfect spring night, the river, the Parisian landmarks and an IUWT reunion! I had to go to Annecy to get ready for the wedding but the girls got to go to the French Open (and watch Rafa practice up close!) and see a lot of the city.

Once in Annecy, I had planned a tennis get together before the wedding. Although we all try to play from time to time, it looked nothing like college in term of level but it was so fun to play doubles together again! Other guests who weren't part of the team as well as my dad also played. A guest who is now over 70 and who played college tennis back in the day even joined us. Tennis can really bring people of different countries and of all ages together, it's truly the sport of a lifetime!
Finally, the wedding day arrived. Receiving very touching messages from the girls as well as from Coach Loring ahead of the ceremony helped me with the nerves! It was a beautiful day and we all partied until late but unfortunately it was then time to say goodbye.

Even though we don't see each other very often anymore, the years I spent at IU have given me friends for life. It's now so fun to see everyone grow up, meet the girls' boyfriends and attend each other's wedding. We even got to spend time with Maria's son, he already seems interested in tennis! I am glad that we were able to create more memories together, and I'm looking forward to the next IUWT reunion!!
