BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team was unanimously tabbed as the Big Ten preseason favorites in a poll conducted of the league's coaches.
Along with being named the preseason favorite, IU's Andrew Gutman, Francesco Moore and Trey Muse were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
Rounding out the top-five of the preseason poll behind the Hoosiers is No. 7 Michigan State, Maryland, No. 21 Michigan and No. 12 Wisconsin.
The Big Ten Preseason Honors List is the second accolade this month for Gutman, who was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. In 2017, Gutman was named Second-Team All-America by the United Soccer Coaches after helping the Hoosiers lead the NCAA in shutouts (18) and goals allowed (7). The First-Team All-Big Ten and All-Midwest Region selection also netted seven goals on the year and added four assists.
A First-Team All-Big Ten selection in 2017, Moore started all 25 matches for the Hoosiers, scoring three goals to go along with two assists. Moore was named Second-Team United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region after helping the IU defense lead the nation in shutout (18) and goals allowed (7).
Simply put, Indiana's Muse had one of the best seasons of any goalkeeper in NCAA history in 2017. The true freshman started all 25 matches, leading the NCAA in shutouts (18), goals-against average (.260), save percentage (.903) and goalie minutes played (2417:18). Muse was named Second-Team All-Big Ten, Top Drawer Soccer First-Team Best XI and College Soccer News All-Freshman First-Team for his efforts.
