Indiana vs. Ball State (Scrimmage)
August 18, 2018
Postgame Quotes
Indiana Head Coach Amanda Janney Misselhorn
On Sheridan Weiss' hat trick…
"She makes things happen, and she's been working hard to hone down her skills on the forward line. It's nice to see her produce, and she had some great plays last fall so she's becoming more and more reliable. We don't know what's going to happen, but something good is going to happen when she gets the ball."
On the scrimmage with Ball State…
"I think it's good that our younger players are stepping up. We're seeing more and more out of the underclassmen. It's great to see Shelby and Sachi get more action for their experience. Our passing was even better today, and it was great to see a variety of passing combinations."
On handling the demands of back-to-back games…
"It's good to see the depth and the energy off of the bench. We're deeper than we've ever been and the energy was still high in the second overtime. That gives us a lot of great options for different combinations on the field, and it's great to see different people connecting with each other."
On the team's defensive performance…
"Our backfield is loaded with upperclassmen, and they're playing like it. We're excited to see what they can do in the regular season."
On the team's ability to gain penalty corners…
"We got some practice in, the ability to try different things out on our penalty corners. We want that to be a huge strength of ours and we have some great hitters, so it's nice to see us executing."
Junior Sheridan Weiss
On finding form in the preseason…
"I was out for the spring season so coming back I was really excited to improve and get the ability to play. I've been working every day to get better."
On scoring unconventional goals…
"It takes a lot of effort and staying with the play. My goals have never really been normal but I just stick with the ball and do whatever I can to get in the net."
Positive takeaways from the forward line…
"We're working with each other to not only make the runs we need, but working with our midfield and defenders whether we're trying to move the ball forward or defend. Communication is key."
Redshirt Senior Elle Hempt
Reflecting on the three preseason scrimmages…
"I think we've seen a nice progression of all the lines starting to work together cohesively. We've had an awesome freshman class—some are starting, some sparks off of the bench—and overall we're playing as a nice unit. I'm looking forward to seeing how we progress."
Positive takeaways from the backline…
"It's the shape of our backfield. Sometimes we need to alter our shape to get the biggest advantage for our outlets to give our forwards as much time and space as possible."
On holding Ball State without a shot in the first half…
"I don't think you can put it all on defense. There is so much in front of us that has to come together for us to make the good step-ups and saves in the back. Having forwards play good defense on the press and having the midfielders take away lines allow us to have intercepts from the backfield."
