Indiana vs. No. 8 Louisville
August 24, 2018
Postgame Quotes
Indiana Head Coach Amanda Janney Misselhorn
Reflecting on the game…
"It was a tough battle, which is just the way we like it. We're really pleased with the experience of our upperclassmen. Our backfield is stacked with experience, and that showed against Lousiville's speed. I think a lot of positives came out of this game and we have a lot to build from the play today."
On Hailey Couch's setup for the goal and her performance in the early season…
"She's been working hard all preseason so to see her get a big outcome, playing defense, and creating assists, it's a sign of big things to come from her."
On the speed of play from both teams…
"Louisville is a great competitor in the ACC, so it's a good start for us to play them and ramp up to that speed. We just need to maintain that pace for the remainder of the season."
On playing tight with Louisville…
"I really thought we had great defensive battles. Players like Andi Jackson and Hanna Zarrilli were playing physically, yet making clean tackles, and I thought we won most of the 50-50 balls. Those are things we try to mimic in the preseason, so it's a good sign to see those things happen in a big game like this."
On goalkeeper Shelby Querry in her first career start…
"She looked calm and collected in there. She was able to make a lot of saves, but her positioning and composure looked great back there."
Preparing for Ball State…
"We need to organize our midfield a little bit better. If we can find ways to slow down opponents a little bit more on the sidelines, we'll create more outcomes."
Senior Forward Claire Woods
Reflecting on the game…
"It's a great way to start the season. They're a great team, and it shows that our team can hang with them. We're feeling great after this preseason, so it shows that we have a great season ahead."
On scoring the tying goal…
"Hailey [Couch] played great defense because our midfielders released her to go forward and she beat her mark. I just tried to get up there and stay with her. She made a great move and dished it off, and I was wide open. The goal was a great team effort because even if I missed, someone was there for the rebound."
What's the key to finishing more chances as the season progresses?
"We just need to take quick shots knowing that your teammates are there to help you out, even if you go wide. They'll be there to tip it in, so we just need to not be afraid to shoot or try to earn a corner."
What's the big takeaway from this game?
"Keep the tempo up for the rest of the season. This was a great, fast game so we want to keep that pace for our remaining nonconference games and during Big Ten play."
