BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head coach Mike Mayer has announced that redshirt seniors Jake Brown (Carmel, Ind.) and Jack Sparrow (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) have been named co-captains for the 2018-19 season.
Brown was a PING Midwest All-Region team honoree last year and advanced to the NCAA Championship Bryan Regional as an individual, where he tied for 14th. His scoring average of 72.50 as a junior was the 11th-best single-season scoring average in IU history. His career scoring average of 73.78 in 92 rounds is the sixth-best in program history and he is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient.
"It's an absolute honor to be named a co-captain," Brown said. "I'm extremely excited to continue to help this team on the course and off. I try each year to continue to push the guys on the team more and more to get this team to where we want to be. I cannot wait to get this season started and get off on the right track at Champions Pointe."
Sparrow has played 56 career rounds, but a total of 40 rounds the last two years. He set a new career-best as a junior last year with a scoring average of 75.10, lowering his scoring average by over a stroke from his sophomore to junior year. His career scoring average is 75.82 and he is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
"To be a captain of the team is a great honor," Sparrow said. "This is the fifth year Jake and I have been with the program so we know what it takes to be a strong representative of the program. Being captain allows me to help out any way I can, whether that means being more vocal and holding people accountable or leading by example and showing them what the program is about. I am excited for the year and I think this team has an opportunity to do something special."
The 2018-19 season gets underway for the Hoosiers at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational at Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville, Indiana, where the Hoosiers are the host. The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Sept. 8 and 18 holes on Sept. 9.
