Indiana Head Coach Amanda Janney
On returning to Philadelphia…
"We're excited to go back to Philadelphia. I think the competitiveness and rivalries in that city are fantastic and we're excited to go back there and get two very competitive games this weekend."
Indiana has a lot of players on the team from that area. What about the Philadelphia/New Jersey area attracts you to recruit those players?
"Right now, it's great that USA Field Hockey is based at the Spooky Nook in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We're excited that the U.S. team is doing so well and that talent within the U.S. program, from the national team on down, has expanded the growth of Pennsylvania field hockey. We're pleased to have so many players from that area come to Indiana and for them to come back and showcase their skills in front of a huge crowd."
On progress made this week in practice…
"We're working on some defensive things because it's important for us to keep up the intensity in our backfield. That and our two-touch passing from our center midfielders, keeping the ball moving in the midfield. We really want to play a fast-paced game and we have the depth to do it. We just need to see the execution."
Junior Sam Scire
On returning to the Philadelphia/New Jersey area…
"It's really exciting to go back to where I started playing. East Coast field hockey is pretty different from the Midwest, so it'll be great to have our teammates from the East Coast playing in the area they came from."
On the reception from fans when playing on the East Coast…
"We expect to have a lot of fans at our games because many of our families are from the area. That always helps to have an environment with a lot of Hoosier fans away from our home field. It's exciting to play when they're in the stands."
On high school field hockey in the area…
"The field hockey culture in New Jersey and Pennsylvania is among the best in the country. Having that culture in Bloomington, playing with a lot of players from that area, makes it exciting to come back to the East Coast and showcase our skills."
Senior Nora Aucker
On her new role as a senior…
"I've become super comfortable in my role and all of the aspects that come with it. It's being a leader on and off the field, making sure the underclassmen feel welcome, and connecting more with my upperclassmen to make sure we're connecting all over the place."
On the shortened practice schedule during the regular season…
"It takes a lot of focus. We have a bit of a different schedule that results in shorter practices during the week, so we have to be focused and bring intensity in that short amount of time to improve the things we need to improve."
Advice for the newcomers making their first full weekend road trip…
"There's a fun aspect to this weekend—for many of us, we're going home and it's great to see some family and friends at the beginning of the season. But we're reminding everybody that it's a business trip and we're here to get two wins."
