Indiana’s King Wins Gold at 2018 Pan Pacific Championships

TOKYO – Indiana University's Lilly King won yet another gold medal at an international meet on Thursday, winning the 100m breaststroke at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo.
King, the reigning Olympic champion and world-record holder in the event, won with a time of 1:05.44 – the second-fastest time in the world this year.
Along with King's gold, Indiana postgraduate swimmer Zane Grothe took silver in the men's 1500m freestyle, touching with a time of 14:48.40. Grothe's time ranks as the sixth-best in the world this year.
Also, in the men's 1500m freestyle, incoming freshman Michael Brinegar had a great showing, posting the eighth-fastest time in the event at 15:07.04.
In the men's 200m freestyle B Final, the Hoosiers dominated, finishing first and second. Postgrad swimmer Blake Pieroni won with a time of 1:46.68, while current Hoosier Zach Apple placed second with a mark of 1:46.78.
Swimming for Team Canada, postgrad Kennedy Goss placed 20th in the women's 200m freestyle with a time of 2:00.45.
The 2018 Pan Pacific Championships continue on Friday with the 100m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 4x200m relay.
