Volleyball Earns Pair of Victories

CINCINNATI – The Indiana volleyball team picked up two victories, including a five-set win over Cincinnati on the opening day of the Queen City Classic. Indiana started the day with a 3-0 win over Xavier and ended the day with a 3-2 win over the Bearcats.
Key Moments vs. Xavier
• The Hoosiers got out to a 6-2 lead and extended that to 15-8, which promoted Xavier to call a timeout.
• After winning the first set, Indiana found themselves down 22-18 in second set. The Hoosiers rallied back to tie it 24-24 and got back-to-back blocks to win the set 26-24 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• In the third set, Beerman and Edwards each tallied four kills to help the Hoosiers close out the match with a 25-16 set three win.
Notables vs. Xavier
• Kendall Beerman led the Hoosiers with 14 kills against Xaiver. It was her seven match of the season reaching double-digits in kills. Beerman tallied six kills in the opening set of the match. Beerman hit .500 for the match with two errors and 24 attempts.
• Breana Edwards reached double-digit kills for the fifth straight match with 10.
• Bayli Lebo led the Hoosiers in digs for the seventh time in nine matches with 17.
• Indiana limited Xavier to a .085 hitting percentage and recorded 11 team blocks.
Key Moments vs. Cincinnati
• With the score tied 10-10 in the third set, Cincinnati scored six of the next seven points to take a 16-11 lead and won the first set 25-21.
• The Hoosiers won the second set, 25-20 to even the match at 1-1.
• UC went up 2-1 with a 25-20 win in the third set.
• The Hoosiers led 13-11 in the fourth set, but UC rallied to take a 19-15 lead. Indiana went on a 7-0 run finished by a Kendall Beerman kill to give the Hoosiers a 22-19 lead.
• UC came back to tie it at 24-24, but a Hayden Huybers kill and UC error gave the Hoosiers a 26-24 set four win to force a fifth set.
• At 11-11 in the fifth set the Hoosiers got a kill from Deyshia Lofton and an ace from Victoria Brisack to go up 13-11. A Beerman kill and UC service error put it away for the Hoosiers.

• Kendall Beerman led the Hoosiers in kill with 22 and added 16 digs for a double-double.
• Bayli Lebo led the Hoosiers in digs with 18.
• Indiana tallied 11 team blocks.
• Victoria Brisack led the Hoosiers with 37 assists and contributed three service aces.
• The pivotal fourth set had nine ties.
• Beerman converted six kills on eight swings in the fifth set.
• UC standout Jordan Thompson registered 35 kills and had 79 swings.
