Day Honored as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer graduate student Claudia Day has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Day, who played nearly every minute on the backline, was a key factor in both of Indiana's victories over the weekend. On Thursday against Michigan, she provided a pivotal goal line save in the 57th minute to keep the IU deficit at just 2-0. On the other end of the field, her goal in the 88th minute sent the game into overtime, setting up the eventual Hoosier victory. It marked her first career goal as a Hoosier.
On Sunday, Day helped anchor a backline that registered its third shutout of the season. Day once again was there for a goal line save after a Spartan shot went over the head of IU goalkeeper Bethany Kopel. Day chased down the ball and knocked it out of harm's way just before the line.
The Hoosiers, who are currently riding a six-game unbeaten streak, return to action on Thursday as they visit Nebraska.
