OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Indiana University men's soccer's Jeremiah Gutjahr was named one of 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
"Jeremiah has been a great example of how to achieve excellence on and off the field," IU head coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "He leads by example and always puts others first, making him a special teammate. He is engaged in all aspects of college life and has been a great role model for our younger players."
Gutjahr has been a leader on and off the field for the Hoosiers, helping IU reach the NCAA Tournament in his first three seasons, as well as being an active member of the Bloomington community.
Throughout his collegiate career, Gutjahr, a member of SAAC, has been involved in community service events and causes including the following: Salvation Army, Community Kitchen, Banneker Center, Boys & Girls Club, Children Therapy Center and Read Across America Day.
He also participates in Hoosier Heroes, which is a program that helps freshmen student-athletes get acclimated to student life, and helps his former club team (Cutters Soccer Club) with training sessions.
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Gutjahr has appeared in 54 matches with 28 career starts, totaling one goal and two assists.

To be eligible for the award, a student must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men's College Cup in December.
