Hoosiers Top Northwestern to Open Big Ten Play

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team opened conference action with a 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18) win over Northwestern on Friday at University Gym.
Key Moments
• Tied 9-9 in the opening set, the Hoosiers used a 4-0 run to open up a 13-9 lead and won the first set on a kill from freshman Breana Edwards.
• After Northwestern won the second set, the Hoosiers scored seven of the first eight points of set three to build a 7-1 lead on a kill from junior Deyshia Lofton.
• Northwestern got within one at 11-10 in the third set, but Indiana used a 7-3 run to go up 18-13 and take control of the set.
• Deyshia Lofton scored four of the Hoosiers first five points on the fourth set as Indiana built an early 5-1 lead in set four.
• With the Hoosiers leading 17-15 in the fourth set, Northwestern committed a ball handling error and Hayden Huybers and Lexi Johnson combined for a block to put Indiana up 19-15.
• The Hoosiers ended the match on a block by Deyshia Lofton and Breana Edwards.
