Game Notes: Indiana Hosts Virginia in Primetime Clash on Saturday

Setting The Scene
•Indiana (1-0) opens its 59th season at Memorial Stadium (52,656; FieldTurf) on Saturday, Sept. 8, against the Virginia Cavaliers (1-0). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. EDT on BTN.
•The Hoosiers are 40-18 in Memorial Stadium openers with wins in 14 of their last 16 and 31 of their last 36.
•IU is 7-14 all-time against ACC foes after its 34-17 win at Virginia last season (Sept. 9).
•The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 2-1 with a 47-7 victory in Charlottesville on Oct. 10, 2009, and a 34-31 triumph in the only meeting between the two teams in Bloomington on Sept. 10, 2011.
•This is the fourth straight year an ACC opponent has appeared on the schedule - Duke (2015), Wake Forest (2015, 16), Virginia (2017, 18) - and Indiana is 2-2 over the current stretch.
•Senior running back Mike Majette (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and true freshman running back Ronnie Walker Jr. (Hopewell, Va./Hopewell) are the lone Hoosiers from Virginia.
The Coaches
•Tom Allen was named Indiana's head coach on Dec. 1, 2016, and made his debut at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl. The New Castle, Ind., native joined IU as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. Since his arrival, the Hoosiers are the most improved team nationally in total defense and passing defense, the sixth-most improved in third down defense and the ninth-most improved in points per game allowed.
•Bronco Mendenhall is 9-17 in his third season as Virginia head coach. Mendenhall owns a 108-60 (.643) record in his 14th overall year with a previous stop at BYU (2005-15).
