BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head coach Mike Mayer has announced that assistant coach Corey Ziedonis has been promoted to Associate Head Coach effective immediately. Ziedonis, who lettered in golf at Indiana from 2010-13, is in his third season as a member of Mayer's coaching staff.
"I would like to thank Coach Mayer and the administration for this opportunity," Ziedonis said. "As a lifelong Hoosier, working with this team and for this great university means the world to me. I am excited to take on a greater role in the development of our student-athletes.
"With the renovation and construction of a world class golf course for Indiana University well underway, as well as several other recent developments enhancing the overall student-athlete experience, it is a fantastic time to be involved with this program. I am looking forward to a very bright future for Indiana Men's Golf."
His impact on and off the course has been felt immediately since his return to Bloomington. The most recent example of his impact can be seen in the top two players for the Hoosiers in 2017-18 – Jake Brown and Brock Ochsenreiter – both lowered their scoring average by nearly two strokes under Ziedonis' tutelage. And Brown capped off his junior season last year by advancing to the NCAA Regional and tied for 14th at 1-under par.
"Coach Ziedonis has quickly established himself as an outstanding collegiate golf coach," Mayer said. "His knowledge, passion and work ethic are second to none. His future in collegiate golf is very bright."
Prior to joining the Hoosiers' staff, Ziedonis was an assistant coach at the University of Virginia for the Spring of 2016, where the Cavaliers registered five Top 5 team finishes and advanced to the NCAA Championship.
During his playing career, Ziedonis and the Hoosiers made NCAA Regional appearances in each of his four seasons and finished inside the Top 25 three of those appearances. He also finished inside the Top 25 individually at the Big Ten Championship three times in his career and propelled the Hoosiers to a second-place team finish in 2012.
After graduating from Indiana with a degree in sports marketing and management in 2013, he spent the next two seasons as a graduate assistant with the men's golf program at Ball State and also served as a player relations manager on the Golfweek Junior Tour in the spring and summer of 2014.
Ziedonis and the Hoosiers get the 2018-19 season underway at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational from Sept. 8-9 at Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville, Ind.
