BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer redshirt senior Annelie Leitner has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Leitner netted a pair of game-winning goals over the weekend as the Hoosiers defeated Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount on the road.
Against Pepperdine, the Hoosiers and Waves were tied at 1-1 before Leitner broke the stalemate in the 66th minute on a close-distance ball following a free kick.
On Sunday, Leitner's goal in the 82nd minute proved to be the difference-maker as IU withstood a late rally by LMU to come out with a 2-1 victory.
For the season, Leitner now has three goals – all of which have been game-winners. The Salzburg, Austria native has also added two assists as she has set new career highs in both goals and points.
The award marks the first of Leitner's career and she is the first Indiana offensive player to win a weekly Big Ten honor since 2013.
Indiana returns home this weekend as the Hoosiers host Kentucky Friday at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Indiana Men's Soccer team. Admission to all home games is free of charge and fans that have entered Bill Armstrong Stadium by the end of halftime of the women's game will be able to stay for the men's game at no cost.
