Indiana Head Coach Archie Miller
Opening Statement:
"Congratulation to Maryland, I thought those guys played a really tough game today especially moving into that second half. Bruno Fernando, Anthony Cowan -- I thought Eric Ayala played really well, those guys were fantastic in the second half. You know our team did some good things tonight we played like an organized team that was playing smart and obviously really competed. It was as good of a first half as we played. Rebounding the ball, just couldn't get it done on the glass tonight. You know eighteen second shots that's going to get you beat. When you look at our line only turned it over seven times, we made our free throws, and we shot a good percentage we just gave them eighteen second shots and that was the difference in the game. They got a lot of threes off second shots, a lot of and-ones of second shots. To be honest I wish we could have done a better job in that area, I think we may have a better chance to maybe stay in the game. All in all, our guys played hard, played together for the most part. We got to pick ourselves up, it's a long year and it's a tough league and we have Nebraska on Monday night were going to try and push forward on that."
On getting a fourteen-point lead in the first half
"They're going to make runs when you're playing on the road, I thought Anthony Cowan took it upon himself to really start to attack. He was in straight lines at the basket back part of the first half and in the second half we had a really hard time for a while in the second half containing him off the dribble. Transition defense, something got out of whack to start the first four minutes of the second half. Couple shots blocked, couple really tough jump shots I thought got us unorganized and they were able to capitalize on that. I think they had a sixteen to two run to start the second half which were going to have to dig ourselves, which we hung in we done some good things but the inability to get a first time rebound eventually just overwhelmed us."
On Bruno Fernando:
"He was really good in and around the basket he was tough. We tried to take it out of his hands as much as we possibly could he is also a really good passer but he's as good as it gets in terms of what he was being asked to do. Finishing around the rim, offensive rebound it he is a much-improved player in first and second year. One of the better players in our league. I still think that the key to their team goes through Anthony Cowan, I mean when he's playing like that their tough to deal with."
On Juwan Morgan more help inside the paint:
"We have to find a way to get our other guys and be confident with putting them in the game. The plan coming into the game was to play as many players as we can. When Juwan is playing well, and he was playing well most of the game, it's tough to take him out. Justin foul trouble seriously hurt us in the game and him not being in the game defensively and doing something that he is able to do for us hurt. Without questions I wish we could have been able to get him a few more blows and play some other guys. You know it just comes down to feel. De'Ron prolyl shouldn't have been in the game that probably was my fault, probably set him up to fail. We should have went with Justin and Clif."
On Rob Phinisee performance:
"It was beneficial from a rest perspective. Rob obviously isn't himself, He hasn't practiced but maybe a half of practice. He hasn't played basically in a basketball game since Butler so to ask him to come out here and play perfect and do thing that's going to be tough. He ended up playing well in the game, how many did he get? Seventeen minutes, I never even thought he would play seventeen minutes. Hopefully he feels good after this and hopefully he gets back to the consistency he had before he got injured in terms of his ability to practice and what not. Without question he didn't have his feet under him a few times, obviously his wind and just some of the things you have to go through when you take so much time off. But hopefully If he stays healthy, we can get him back moving in the right direction because he obviously helps our team."
On team mentality:
"We played well in the first half. We played really hard defensively we competed really hard I think to start the game. Clearly, they made some runs. I thought we didn't turn the ball over which was good to see. At times when we turned it over it didn't go well but to be able to finish the half and to go into half time, I think with the league plus whatever eight, seven, I'm not sure what it was. Thirty-five twenty-seven I mean we had a good start and guys were really dialed in a lot more so than we have been in recent games and hopefully that can carry over."
On Anthony Cowan's performance this year versus last year:
"He's a year older, he's a year stronger. They have a good system and good players around him, so he has space to play. I think he is a really tough cover in terms of one-on-one. Best thing that we did was put Romeo on him late in the game, probably should have had a bigger guy on him most of the game cause he's shooting twelve-foot pull ups or he is all the way to the basket you need a bigger guy on him in my opinion. I thought last year we did a much better job of being physical with him, we had a stronger guy on him most of the time. You know he is playing really well right now. Their team is playing very well right now, they are a very good team."
On Romeo Langford performance:
"He attacked, he was aggressive, he shot the ball well tonight. He was nine-for-nine from the line and he hit some threes to keep us in there late. He was good for most of the game that's kind of how he plays. I'm not saying he did anything I don't see every day. I think he is starting to get a little bit more confidence shooting the ball which is a good thing because he is going to have to continue to do that. We're trying to do our best to keep those guys fresh and what not. I though Juwan played an iron man thirty-six minutes, it's hard to play a thirty-six minutes in that type of game we like to get him a few more blows. We also had some other contributions from the guys that did good, especially early in the game those guys Al, Devonte, and Justin…those guys did well. We just have to find a way to get more contributions from everybody involved and that's how it is. Its early January right now you're going through a really brutal stretch in the league and for us it's about constantly trying to get improved. And we got better from Sunday to Friday. Now the quest it to get better from Friday as we play Nebraska on Monday."

On what the team [Indiana] did not do in the second half that they did do in the first half:
"I think keeping [Maryland] off the boards was our biggest problem, and stopping them in transition. We stopped doing that in the second half."
On how to mitigate size disadvantage when keeping [Maryland] off the boards:
"I think we have to do our work early and work harder. If we work harder there will be a better outcome."
On feeling if the team was rushed during the second half:
"Definitely. They started going on runs and then the crowd gets into it, it could speed us up a little bit."
On the key to getting to a fast start early on in the game:
"I think mentality. We just came out ready to go, we did not want to get off to a slow start."
On the key to keeping that mentality for 40 minutes:
"I don't think there is just one key, I think it's just sticking to what we do consistently throughout the game."
