CHICAGO – Indiana University men's soccer's Francesco Moore was selected with the 23rd pick (71st overall) in the third round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Monday by the Portland Timbers.
Moore was the third Hoosier to be drafted this year, as Griffin Dorsey was selected by Toronto FC with the sixth overall pick in the first round and Rece Buckmaster was taken by New York Red Bulls with the eighth pick (32nd overall) of the second round of the SuperDraft last Friday.
Moore becomes the 48th Indiana player selected in the MLS Draft since the league's inception in 1996. IU has had six players selected in the last four MLS SuperDrafts after Mason Toye was taken Minnesota United FC last year, Tanner Thompson was selected by Minnesota United FC 2017 and Femi Hollinger-Janzen was drafted by the New England Revolution in the 2016 SuperDraft.
A leader on and off the pitch for the Hoosiers over the last four seasons, Moore was a two-time First-Team All-Big Ten and All-Region selection. A four-year contributor in the defensive midfield, Moore started 86 of his 88 career matches for Indiana, totaling three goals and eight assists. The Highland Park, Ill. native also helped IU post 54 shutouts over the last four seasons.
Moore helped the Hoosiers to back-to-back College Cup appearances and was a key contributor in IU's 2018 Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. Moore was also a standout in the classroom, earning three Academic All-Big Ten accolades.
